June Update–8, 9 & 12

This update is long overdue and I apologize for its lateness.  So much has happened since I last wrote to you, so I thought I would do some a little creative.  See if you can figure what I did.

Eight

Legacy Christian Church is now 8 months old!  It is hard to believe that not so long ago we didn’t exist.  No one knew who Legacy was but God alone, and now we celebrate each weekend with 150 people who God has brought to us.  In April we had our second baptism service.  We baptized another 4 people into faith in Jesus!  Since January we have seen God move in 10 other people’s lives, leading them to be baptized as well.  This puts us at 14 baptisms for the year!  God is so good!

Like so many churches, we celebrated the Easter season by having an “April Fool’s Day Easter Egg Hunt,” on April 1st.  We hid over 1000 eggs around the high school’s property, we had a bounce house, free hot dogs for all the families.  We have about 30 kids participate.  We even had 3 new families show up just for that event, and we have seen a few of them back on Sunday mornings to worship with us.  God is good!  Our Easter celebrations continued with a Good Friday service and Easter morning service.  I got the privilege of preaching the Good Friday message.  You can listen to it by clicking here.  We saw over 200 in attendance throughout the weekend.  God is good!

Katie and I have now been married for over 9 months!  It is crazy how time flies.  She just received a promotion at the hospital.  She is being trained as a CT Technician and once her training is over she will have a part-time position.  Also, this means that she will be dual credentialed and can work in the X-ray Department or the CT Department.  We have prayed for and seen God give her a job that she loves.  Her coworkers have been great and her supervisors are awesome too!  God is good!

In March, Katie’s best friend and sister came and stayed with us for a week over Spring Break, and just last week my parents came and stayed with us for 5 days.  It was a blast spending time with friends and family, and it was encouraging to get visitors from home.  We definitely love it here, and enjoy living in the Milwaukee area, it is always nice to get a small slice of home.  We are starting to make good friendships and look forward to the many more that we will make while serving at Legacy.

Twelve

Last week I celebrated my “anniversary” with Legacy. On June 15th, 2011 I packed up my truck, said goodbye to my fiancé and headed out on the open road for a 12 hour drive to the place I now call home–Menomonee Falls, WI.  What a journey it has been since then.  We have seen the church grow and are averaging around 150.  Each week we continue to see new faces and new families.  It is so exciting to see how God is building HIS church here in the Greater-Milwaukee area.

As we look forward to Legacy’s one year anniversary in October, we are gearing up for some big outreach events.  This summer we are offering to the community, Friday Family Flicks.  We are hosting a movie night each month this summer in one of our communities parks.  We are renting large inflatables, having fun games, face painting, free popcorn, sno-cones, and more!  We are showing Courageous, Cars 2 and The Lorax.  We are very excited about these events and hope that we will see many people come to recognize Legacy as a church for the community!

Things to pray for:

  • New faces to continue to come to Legacy
  • That we will see many people come to our “Friday Family Flicks” and see that we really do care for them and our community
  • Financial support to continue to come in
  • To continue to see God raise up leaders for ministry at Legacy

Did you figure out what my title means? It wasn’t too hard. Each number represents a different stage in our lives!  We have seen God continue to provide for us and we are so grateful for all your prayers and financial support of the ministry here at Legacy Christian Church.  We look forward to telling even more great things that God is doing here.

Pressing Onward,

Matt and Katie Berry
